Medical Causes of Insomnia - Facts To Help Undertand Your Sleeping Problems

Filed under: General Information - 02 Nov 2009

Insomnia is a sleep condition where the individual affected suffers from lack of sleep. This lack of sleep stems from psychological and medical causes of insomnia. Although there are many psychological causes which may result in insomnia, the medical causes of insomnia may be few.

Medications Can Cause Insomnia

One of the medical causes of insomnia are medications and drugs which may b prescribed to the individual and even over the counter drugs, which the individual takes. Medication can be one of the causes of insomnia in children as well as adults. Medication or drugs which contain nicotine may result in insomnia in certain individuals. Antidepressants, beta blockers and beta agonists can also be the medical causes of insomnia for some people. The ingestion of drugs and prescribed medication affects people differently. In other words, different people may have different reactions to a drug or medication, which suggests that insomnia may or may not result in people taking the same medicine.

Medical Conditions

Some medical conditions have also been pinpointed as some of the medical causes of insomnia in people. For example, such medical conditions found to be medical causes of insomnia are: hyperthyroidism, Parkinson’s disease, allergies, asthma, hypertension, arthritis and heart disease. Of course, some medical causes of insomnia will also include the onset of pain and discomfort caused by injuries and other conditions which manifest pain or discomfort in the person. A tingling sensation, not necessarily painful can also keep the individual from getting a good night’s sleep.

Sleep apnea is also another of the many different medical causes of insomnia. This condition is actually a breathing disorder where the individual may stop breathing for a very short period of time while sleeping. As the body gasps for air when this happens, the individual may wake from the effort. Restless leg syndrome is also another cause of insomnia which can be attributed to the medical aspect of its causes. This condition is one in which the individuals legs feel a sensation akin to twitching or feels the urge to move when it is in a stationary position.

These medical causes of insomnia are not as many as the psychological causes. These medical causes of insomnia may be more easily addressed than the various psychological causes of the condition. But the medical causes of insomnia in certain instances may also be difficult to correct as the underlying reason or issue must be addressed before the person may be cured.

Was That A Plane I Heard- No It Was Snoring

Filed under: General Information - 02 Nov 2009

The loudest snore in Britain was only recently recorded at a whopping 111.6dB which is huge. To put it into perspective it is actually louder than any of those large washing machines and even louder than the biggest commercial washing machine. It is so loud in fact that is louder than a tractor, truck, train and even a low flying aircraft. This couple must really care for eachother if they have been able to put up with this for such a long period of time!

Of course you have to be a bit sympathetic as apparently she not only wakes her husband up but herself too which means neither of them are able to sleep. Why can some people not be cured and what causes snoring?

There are many experts out there that think that snoring is caused by the pleasures of life as well as few other reasons. Just a few of them here

Smoking

Smoking certainly has changed over the years from being something that people should do to causing many problems, snoring has now been added to that. Best advice is just do not smoke, it is bad for you and you are handing over millions to the government too!

Overeating

Everyone overeats on occasions but if you do it all of the time and snack as well as eating your three meals a day then this could actually be what is behind your snoring problems.

Do Some Excercise

Exercise is very important and at least twenty minutes should be spent on it a day, this could help your problems as well as shred a couple of pounds too!

How Do You sleep

If your partner is constantly moaning at you because you have your arm in his/her face and your leg in their gut then chances are you are not sleeping in the correct position. If you change this then it could solve your problem.

Other reasons could be an allergy, nasal stuffiness, mouth breathing and even small nostrils, whatever it is you best sort it before you start to snore louder than the commercial laundry equipment.
