Sleep Disorder Treatments: How to Regain Normal Sleep
There are now may options open to insomnia sufferers to treat their disorder: from herbal and other natural remedies, through over-the-counter medications, to prescription drugs, and even surgery. We shall look at the different treatments and the advantages and disadvantages of each. We shall attempt to analyze which type of treatment is the most effective for your sleep disorder and the least aggressive for your body.
The first type of sleep disorder treatment we mentioned were herbal remedies. Herbs offer many different options and are often used to relieve a problem that is the underlying cause of our insomnia or other sleep disorder. This could be a digestive problem, for instance, or persistent headaches that prevent us from sleeping well. By attacking and relieving these underlying symptoms, the herbs allow us to regain our usual sleep patterns.
Over the Counter Medications
The second step in treating sleep disorders may be to use over the counter medications, the type that do not require a prescription from your doctor. Paxil for Insomnia: Pros and Cons
Paxil is a drug that is now commonly used to treat insomnia. It is, in fact, a medication for people who suffer from anxiety of any kind - generalized anxiety, panic attacks, post traumatic stress, and obsessive-compulsive disorder. People who suffer from these disorders also often suffer from insomnia, since insomnia in many cases is the result of another, underlying problem or illness, above all depression or anxiety. Paxil is prescribed especially for patients whose insomnia affects their lives to the point where they cannot function properly during the day. In these cases, Paxil can offer enough relief from the underlying anxiety to allow the patient to get sufficient sleep to begin functioning again.
Studies have shown that patients suffering from anxiety and depression typically have lower levels of serotonin in the brain, and Paxil works, at least in part, by raising this level. Higher levels of serotonin seem to have a calming effect on a patient?s moods and go hand in hand with a lessening of anxiety and depression. (more…)

Insomnia Treatments: from Mild to Strong
Finding the best treatment for their problem is very important for all insomnia sufferers. Insomnia can have very severe effects on their life, including fatigue and lack of concentration ? which can even lead to serious accidents in the case of drivers or operators of machinery. However, most physicians ? and insomnia sufferers- would agree that it is much better to prevent insomnia than to cure it.

One of the first, and most important steps, in preventing insomnia is to limit your caffeine intake. If you can?t altogether eliminate coffee, for example, make sure you don?t drink any in the evening or night time. It is also a good idea to do regular exercise ? a little each day, just enough to make your body feel tired ? although, again, not close to bedtime. (more…)

What must be borne in mind, however, is that Trazaodone is, first and foremost, an anti-depressant drug that is often prescribed to treat depression with accompanying insomnia. Thus it should not be used to treat insomnia that is not associated with other underlying conditions, or which has no other underlying condition at all. We shall look at the side effects that can be associated with Trazodone and examine how Trazodone should be taken and for how long. We shall analyze the dangers associated with Trazodone and attempt to give an answer to the question of whether it is a good treatment for you.
Feeling Very Sleepy Is a Common Side Effect
Although different people can be affected by different side effects, one of the most common among patients taking Trazodone is feeling sleepy. While it might appear that this would be very welcome among insomnia sufferers it can also bring unwelcome consequences if it makes you lose concentration. (more…)
